Prof. Woo-kyun Lee, (Director of OJERI) held a decision-making workshop in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific(UNSCAP), from January 27th to 31th.
This was the first international workshop of this year and held to discuss monitoring agricultural drought in Central Asia due to climate change and early warning decision making and future research cooperation.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Lee Woo-kyun and his research team, as well as the GIS (Geographic Information System) experts of the Central Asian Kyrgyzstan MES (Ministry of Emergency Situation), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) team, and Dr. Tae-hyung Kim from UNSCAP.
A research team led by Prof. Woo-kyun Lee (Director of OJERI, Korea University) transferred new model for evaluating drought stress in crops by integrating satellite image data and weather data and predicting future droughts according to weather changes.
Prof. Woo-kyun Lee expected the workshop to contribute to the revitalization of research exchanges in drought and food security with Central Asian countries and Korea.
